Guided Hiking For All At OAX

At Outdoor Adventure X Snowbasin Village, attendees will have access to incredible hiking trails. The professionally trained instructors of Weber State University’s (WSU) Outdoor Program and the team from Get Outside will lead a variety of hikes around the mountain, including an Ogden Canyon Overlook guided hike and a “Thoughtful Practices to Care for the Land: Leave No Trace” hike.

These hikes, like all OAX education activities, are included in the OAX ticket or camping pass.

Ogden Canyon Overlook Trail Guided Hike

Hiking Mt Ogden is a local tradition! There are several hike options from Snowbasin resort and we would love to show you the most user-friendly route. Bring some friends, family, or come as an individual to meet folks who love hiking. All experience levels are welcome on this group hike. Necessary equipment: Water, snacks, day pack, sun protection (sunscreen or long light layers, sunglasses or sun hat), sturdy broken-in shoes (tennis shoes or hiking shoes are great).

Thoughtful Practices to Care for the Land:

Leave No Trace

Outdoor Recreation and land usage has skyrocketed in the past several years! If we want to make meaningful traditions and enjoy our favorite spaces for generations to come, we all need to take action to be thoughtful as we play outside. Join us for a short hike where we will take short breaks to discuss best practices for careful and thoughtful usage of the great outdoors. This will be perfect for folks of all ages! Necessary equipment: Water, snacks, day pack, sun protection (sunscreen or long light layers, sunglasses or sun hat), sturdy broken-in shoes (tennis shoes or hiking shoes are great).

MEET MATISSE MOSHER

Matisse Mosher grew up hiking on the Ogden trails and has seen how much the trails have grown. Although they are familiar, Matisse says “the mountains continue to surprise and amaze me, constantly.” Matisse went on her first backpacking trip with her eighth grade class to the Grand Canyon and instantly fell in love. Since then she has been hiking, backpacking, climbing, rafting, skiing, and enjoying everything in between. Matisse will be leading guided hikes at OAX, in addition to the Adaptive Climbing Clinic.

What is your favorite way to enjoy nature?

My favorite way to enjoy the outdoors is either by introducing them to someone new, or sharing them with an old friend. A trail can lead the conversation to places you’d never find on your own.

Do you have a go-to trail snack or camp meal?

My go-to trail snack is banana chips! I love how sweet they seem after being on trail for a couple of days. Plain peanut butter is also a treat.

If you had to pick one don’t-leave-home-without-it piece of kit, what would it be?

If I had to pick one don’t-leave-home-without-it piece of kit, it would be a rain poncho or an outer layer.
