At Outdoor Adventure X Snowbasin Village, the professionally trained instructors of Weber State University’s (WSU) Outdoor Program will lead an Intro to Paddleboarding clinic.
The Intro to Paddleboarding clinic, like all OAX education activities, is included in the OAX ticket or camping pass. The session is open to all attendees who want to learn paddleboarding fundamentals and folks are able to arrive anytime between 9:00am and 11:15am on Saturday or Sunday at the Lakeside Lounge to participate.
Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)
Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) has become one of the most popular ways to enjoy local waterways! If you have not gotten the chance to try this sport, want to try inflatables vs hardshells or just want to play on the water with your family? Join us for a 2 hour session on the water to beat the summer heat. For this session, participants are welcome to come and go as they please. No need to show up at 9:00am on the dot and stay for the duration! Equipment Provided: Basic paddling equipment will be provided (SUP, PFD, Paddle) or participants may bring their own.
Meet Weber State University’s Team
You’ll be able to find Jordan Dullnigg on the water leading SUP demos and on the rock wall leading adaptive climbing clinic during OAX. Jordan was introduced to the outdoors by her friend, Ashley, who took her climbing at 9th street and then Cub Scout Corner. From there, Jordan, just kept going outside and enjoyed it. Her favorite ways to enjoy the outdoors lately include bouldering, hiking, whitewater rafting and soon she will try mountain biking. Jordan says her “go to trail snack is the Austin cheddar cheese crackers or sunflower seeds and her favorite camp meal is a tortilla wrap with turkey, cheese, hummus and banana peppers.” If Jordan has a break between classes at OAX, you’ll find her with her nose in a book – she loves to read anything that catches her attention.
Sam Scothern is an Ogden local currently studying communications at Weber State University. Sam will also be leading SUP demos during OAX, in addition to leading the mountain bike rides. Sam has spent his whole life recreating in the mountains of Ogden, where he learned his love for being outdoors. His favorite activities are skiing, mountain biking, camping, and backpacking. In high school, Sam raced mountain bikes and tuned skis out of his garage, eventually leading him to the Outdoor Program at Weber State. While working at the Outdoor Program, Sam discovered his passion for “getting others stoked to be outside” and hopes to carry on that passion throughout his career.
How were you introduced to the outdoors?
My parents were ski instructors at Snowbasin before I was even born and had my sister and me on skis as soon as we were able to. I’ve been skiing for as long as I can remember.
Do you have a go-to trail snack or camp meal?
If I’m backpacking I always have a jar of peanut butter readily available.
